Media

Members of the media who wish to travel to U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to observe military commissions must coordinate travel through the Department of Defense (DoD), Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs (OASD-PA). The Office of Military Commissions (OMC) does not coordinate either group or individual media travel to Guantanamo Bay.

Media members may occasionally travel to Guantanamo Bay on flights arranged by OMC. On those occasions, the media is escorted by personnel from OASD-PA; media members are also required to reimburse DoD for the cost of the flight.

Media members should check with OASD-PA if they have any questions regarding equipment they intend to bring to Guantanamo Bay. You may reach OASD-PA at +1 (703) 697-5131. As a general rule, there is sufficient cargo space to accommodate large pieces of equipment, but media members should inquire prior to travel.

Media members traveling to Guantanamo Bay during military commissions hearings are lodged in the tent city at Camp Justice, adjacent to the Media Center.

The Media Ground Rules for Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GTMO), provide more information.
